Some thoughts on motherhood and having a career. Women can have it all!

9th March 2018 | Career AdviceMotivationalYourRecruit

Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend and it reminds us, once again, how challenging it is to handle motherhood and your career successfully! We’re all familiar with that nagging concern of getting the right work life balance. The truth is that there is no single answer on how to manage a career and motherhood, yet there are many career mums who have found ways to be efficient in both.  Having this topic in mind, we asked some of our working mums in the team to share their thoughts and experiences with us.

“Work to live, don’t live to work.”

1 – Have you ever thought of motherhood as an obstacle achieving your career dreams? No, just a slight delay but worth it!

2 – Do you see any advantages of being a mother and a career woman? Yes, you see the bigger picture in life, you don’t have the time to worry about small irritating things.

3 – Can you name a female character who has influenced you? My Mum who worked two jobs as a single mum, doing a great job raising three children.

4 – Have you got any words of advice to working mothers? Stay organised / family comes first / if you aren’t happy your family won’t be happy / work to live, don’t live to work.

“You can have more than one dream in life”

1 – Have you ever thought of motherhood as an obstacle achieving your career dreams? Not at all!  You can have more than one dream in life and to me the two compliment each other nicely – I’ve never seen being a parent as an obstacle to anything!

2 – Do you see any advantages of being a mother and a career woman? I think being a mother has made me better at my role and as a person – it’s taught me a greater level of patience and understanding,  and a new desire to be the best I can be to inspire my children in the future.

3 – Can you name a female character who has influenced you? I can’t think of just one, all working mum’s are fabulous.

4 – Have you got any words of advice to working mothers? Be organised and plan!!

“Don’t lose your focus on what you want to do”

1 – Have you ever thought of motherhood as an obstacle achieving your career dreams? No not at all but you are more aware of the choices you make and what will provide a happy balance.

2 – Do you see any advantages of being a mother and a career woman? You learn to juggle more things and be more time-efficient!

3 – Can you name a female character who has influenced you? Michelle Obama – she isn’t necessarily motivating but she is a prime example of having a huge job whilst raising children and guiding them correctly

4 – Have you got any words of advice to working mothers? Don’t lose your focus on what you want to do – I wouldn’t want to work for a company that didn’t respect my needs as a parent but I would want a company to know that would be 100% committed to the role.

Balancing parenthood and working life is often a matter of managing your time and making the most of the time with your family. Saying that, doing this may not be an easy thing, but it is rewarding.
