Children’s Home Registered Manager (4-Bed Home)

Location: South Yorkshire within easy reach of Sheffield
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 39 hours per week

Salary: Up to £62,000 (inclusive of performance-related bonuses)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Manager to lead a newly established 4-bed children’s home supporting young people with emotional and behavioural needs.

This is an opportunity to take full ownership of a service from an early stage, shaping the culture, building a team, and driving positive outcomes for young people.

Purpose of the Role

The Registered Manager will hold overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the home, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality care.

You will lead and develop a staff team, ensuring that all practice is aligned with current legislation, regulatory requirements and best practice standards, while promoting the rights and wellbeing of young people at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery & Practice

  • Ensure the home operates in line with all relevant legislation, regulations and inspection frameworks
  • Deliver high standards of care that support the physical, emotional and social development of young people
  • Maintain accurate and compliant records for both staff and young people
  • Oversee admissions and discharges
  • Lead on safeguarding, health & safety, and risk management
  • Prepare for and lead internal and external meetings, including inspections
  • Produce clear, concise reports and maintain effective communication across the service

Leadership & Team Management

  • Recruit, induct, supervise and appraise staff
  • Support continuous professional development across the team
  • Manage rotas and staffing requirements
  • Handle performance, disciplinary and grievance processes where required
  • Provide strong, consistent leadership aligned to organisational values

Operational & Financial Oversight

  • Manage service budgets and monitor expenditure
  • Ensure the home environment is safe, well-maintained and fit for purpose
  • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives

External Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with commissioners, local authorities and partner agencies
  • Support referrals and placement matching
  • Represent the organisation in a professional and positive manner

Requirements

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards)
  • Proven experience managing a children’s residential service
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
  • Ability to lead teams and manage complex behaviours
  • Confident in report writing and regulatory compliance
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexible and resilient approach

Additional Information

  • This role will involve participation in an on-call rota and may require occasional sleep-in duties depending on service needs.
