Are you an experienced Paraplanner with experience working in the financial advice industry, especially with experience surrounding DB? If so, this role will be of interest to you!

Our client, a multi-award winning firm of financial advisers who is owned by one of the top 10 largest insurance companies in the world, are looking for a talented Paraplanner to join their successful team who takes pride in delivering a "best in class" service. You will be joining the paraplanning department, reporting to the Paraplanner Manager, assisting in preparing draft suitability reports on behalf of the Private Client Advisers and for Pension Liability Management (PLM) projects. This particular position is focused in PLM and providing Defined Benefit advice only.

The successful Paraplanner will review FactFinds and Meeting Notes of our clients Consultants against Compliance guidelines and is expected to challenge the consultants if their client’s financial needs are not clearly documented and accurate. They will research whole of market advice and draft suitability reports within an agreed timescale based on the information provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Review PLM fact-finds against defined Compliance guidelines to make sure ALL aspects of the client financial needs are clearly documented, challenging the adviser where appropriate to enable them to research suitable advice options based on the information provided. As part of this the role holder will be expected to challenge gaps and justifications with advisers where appropriate.
  • Using research tools to ensure advice is provided to the client as requested by the adviser.
  • Liaise with advisers and other parts of the organisation plus third parties for additional information to support the recommendations for the clients, with the ability to challenge/agree requirements to enable the paraplanning activities to be performed in a timely and quality manner.
  • Preparing draft suitability reports within an agreed timescale for the client based on the information received/researched, for final approval by the adviser, using technical knowledge and experience plus compliance approved templates/standard paragraphs (where they exist) and soft facts including justification for advice.
  • Maintain internal relationships with Advisers, pension transfer specialists, business support teams, and IT departments. Maintain external relationships with third party suppliers, product providers and investment houses.

Requirements for the role:

  • Pensions and Defined Benefit Transfer knowledge is essential.
  • Previous paraplanning experience, writing Defined Benefit advice reports is essential (minimum of 1 year).
  • Previous experience in an IFA firm is essential.
  • Previous experience in working within a sales-oriented team with interest in researching and analysing information is essential.
  • Drawdown advice experience.
  • Recommending Annuities experience.
  • Scheme pensions experience.
  • Defined Contribution with GMP/RST pension plans.
  • Excellent analytical and evaluation skills.
  • Financial Services experience is essential preferably obtained in a life and pensions environment.
  • Diploma level - QCF Level 4.
  • A knowledgeable individual who can manage time effectively, make confident decisions and prioritise.
  • Competent at using Microsoft packages and multiple systems (e.g., provider sites, internal systems).
  • Proven record of maintaining CPD (Continuous professional development).
  • Pension and DB Transfer knowledge.
  • Practical knowledge of financial planning, pensions, investments, wealth, management, life assurance, tax matters and corporate financial advice.

Desired Experience/Knowledge

  • Financial Planning Diploma is essential
  • CII J09 Paraplanning
  • Working towards Chartered status (QCF Level 6)
  • Working towards FP Diploma is essential
  • Administration experience.
