Strictly Come dancing is my all time favourite show because it embraces glamour, style, fun and a little bit of competition! It’s also about professional and, albeit celebrities, generally ordinary people of all ages, going out of their comfort zone and trying something new. And then of course there are THOSE dresses! What else do we talk about for the whole next week??!

The lesson to be learned is that anyone can look and feel fabulous, anytime of day or night, its just knowing what will suit YOU.

So it’s party season and everyone is going out having fun, dancing, drinking and general seasonal frivolity. Some of us, well most of us, do still have to work and sometimes depending on where we live, are unable to attend the fun and games, as we are unable to get home and back in time. Until….your fairy frock mother Gay Richardson came along and showed you how to dress from desk to dinner; casual to cocktail…….you shall all go to the ball!

It can be relatively simple to transform an office outfit to an ‘out on the town’ one with just a few items and adjustments. Planning is key so try out your looks a few nights before and consider fabric (for creasing), number of items for carrying and essentials to make you feel revived. Here 7 steps to Heaven! 1. Throw off jacket or cardigan in one swift movement 2. Replace with crop evening jacket or nothing (rub in perfumed body lotion on bare arms for a refreshed feeling) To bare or not to bare……. If your dress is sleeveless please don’t panic as there are many sleeve solutions- the most recently is armery! If you watched Mary Portas on TV you would know about her armery invention; tights to cover the arms. Now produced by Charnos there are many colours and designs in fishnet, sheer, lacy– available online or at House of Fraser Other alternatives are sheer sleeve bolero, crop jacket, Fur or lace bolero, crop evening cardies; ¾ sleeves are always flattering. 3. Change day tights to cool tights (i.e. patterned) Pretty Polly have stars; Falke has checks & animal print; M&S polkas dots 4. Kick off those court shoes and slip into heels. You could also do opaque tights with shoe boots if you are wearing a tunic, with a playful hemline (for playful read short!) 5. Add some statement jewellery – long necklaces, cuff bangle, Chandelier earrings; or change a belt to an animal print with matching shoes. Body con dresses are fabulous as they won’t crease from being worn all day and any ‘evening’ details like sheer sleeves or sparkly decoration can be covered for the day with a jacket or a cardigan 6. Refresh make up and revamp hair into high pony if long or scruffy bob if short 7. Grab a clutch (money- check; phone – check; cards- check; lipstick- check) and your ready to rock my Cinderella’s!

NB. Reverse order if you stay out all night and go straight from dancing to desk! Naughty! Have a fabulously stylish Christmas and wonderful new year.
